The "Nakai Tablature fingering Charts and Useful Scales" were created for the followiing purposes:
*to make persons aware of the full range of notes possible on the instrument,
*to aid persons in reading music written for the Native American Flute in "Nakai Tablature",
*to aid persons in knowing exactly what pitch each fingering produces, and
*to provide various scales that can help the player perform more creatively.
To choose the best fingering chart for you, know the key of your Native American (NA) flute and then choose the corresponding fingering chart version. For example, if your NA flute is built in the key of A, choose the A version of the fingering chart, If your NA flute is built in the key of F#, choose the F# version of the fingering chart. If you do not know the key in which your NA flute is built, choose the Generic fingering chart.
Fingering information in the charts pertains to both 5 and 6-hole Native America flutes.
