Instructional Materials
I have put together four packets of instructional materials for the Native American flute:
- Articulations, Embellishments and Special Effects
- Guide to Reading Music: Duration, Rhythm and Counting
- Guide to Reading Nakai Tablature
- Nakai Tablature Fingering Charts and Useful Scales
Of the four packets, I consider having a good fingering chart to be most important, because it will inform you of all the notes available from the lowest to the highest, along with fingering and the name of the actual pitch the flute is producing. Fingering Charts are available for every Native American flute, no matter what key they are built in. For example, a flute built in A minor has a different fingering chart than a flute built in E minor. So choose a chart that coincides with the key of the flute
